Challenge Trophy Starts February 10th
The Bowls NZ Challenge Trophy will get underway on Friday 10th of February at the Burnside Bowling Club in Christchurch.
The tournament will feature many of the country’s up and coming bowlers and national Black Jacks squad members. The Bowls NZ Challenge Trophy was designed as a tool for talent development squad members to utilise the skills they have learnt in their squad environment, and put them into practice at an actual event. The competition provides them with the opportunity to test their abilities under the pressures of tournament play against New Zealand’s best bowlers.
National Coach Dave Edwards comments, “It’s going to be an exciting event this year because for the very first time, all of the Black Jacks are going to be in attendance. This means the talent development squad players are going to be able to observe and learn from the very best players in the country.” They will also have the opportunity to play alongside and against members of the national Black Jacks team providing them with the opportunity to, “show what they’ve got with a view to future NZ selection” says Edwards.
The bowlers are placed into four teams of 12, under regional banners, to battle it out for the trophy.
The trophy was won by the Mainland team in 2010 and the Northern Team in 2009.
The tournament will last for three days.
